Change Your Hair, Change Your Confidence (Christine)

As a hairstylist, I’ve had countless opportunities to try just about every hairstyle you can imagine. And I’ve taken full advantage! Ever since I was twelve years old—when I first colored my hair blue-black—I discovered something powerful: I could become someone else with new hair. That transformation sparked something in me that I still carry today.

Growing up, Joan Jett was one of those badass women I looked up to. She had this fearless attitude, her own unapologetic style, and a fierce independence that made me want to be just like her. So I did what any impressionable teen would do—I changed my hair, changed my clothes, and adopted a whole new energy. And guess what? It worked. I felt like a badass. My hair became a catalyst for a stronger, bolder version of myself.

That experience taught me something at a young age: changing your hair can change how you feel about yourself. At a time in life when confidence is hard to come by—especially in your early teens—my hair gave me an edge. It helped me stop blending in and start standing out. And that’s something I think a lot of us forget as we get older.

Whether it’s Joan Jett, Sophia Loren, or Lady Gaga that inspires us, I believe there’s something incredibly important—and even necessary—about embracing change. Especially when it comes to our hair.

We get into routines. We find what's “safe.” And before we know it, we become stagnant—complacent. Changing your hair is one of the simplest, yet most powerful ways to shake things up, reignite your creativity, and give yourself a much-needed confidence boost.

Just the other day, I had this exact conversation with one of my guests, Caroline. She came in with long hair that fell past her shoulders, and after years of playing it safe, she decided it was time. We took the leap and gave her a chic, Italian bob—sharp, stylish, and full of personality. When she looked in the mirror, she lit up and said, “When I change my hair, it gives me a fresh perspective and lifts my confidence.”

She nailed it. That’s exactly what a good change does—it opens the door to more.

Whenever I make a bold change to my own hair, it doesn’t stop there. Suddenly I’m inspired to try new things, take more risks, and step into new versions of myself. It’s like changing your hair gives you permission to evolve in every area of your life.

So here’s my invitation to you: If you’ve been stuck in the same style for a while, if you’ve been playing it safe, if you're waiting for a sign—this is it.

You don’t have to go full Joan Jett (unless you want to—I fully support that!). Maybe it’s a new fringe, a bold new color, or a modern cut that better reflects who you are today—not who you were five years ago.

Change doesn’t have to be drastic, but it does have to be you. Let your hair be a form of expression, a way to tell the world who you are, how you feel, and where you’re headed.

Because when we change our hair, we don’t just look different—we feel different. We stand taller. We show up with more energy. And we remember that we’re in charge of our own story.

Ready to take the leap? Let’s create your next chapter—one strand at a time.
